Delete Your Account
Last updated: 28 June 2026
This page explains how to delete your ALTShaadi account and the personal data associated with it, what happens after you ask, what is permanently erased, and the limited records ALTMatrimonial is required to keep. You can start deletion from inside the app, or by email if you have already removed the app.
1. Delete your account in the app
On both the mobile app and the website, deletion lives on the Account & data screen:
- Mobile app: Profile → Account & data → scroll to Danger zone → Delete my account, then confirm in the dialog.
- Website: Settings → Account & data → Danger zone → Delete my account, then confirm in the dialog.
The confirmation step tells you that your account is hidden immediately and that a 30-day grace period applies before permanent erasure. Once confirmed, the screen shows the exact date your account is scheduled to be deleted.
2. What happens immediately
- Your account is hidden — no one can find, view, or contact you.
- Your profile is removed from search results and from everyone’s match feed.
- Your display name is replaced with “Deleted user” everywhere it appears.
- A deletion request is recorded with the scheduled permanent-deletion date.
3. The 30-day grace period
Deletion is a two-stage process. The first stage is reversible: for 30 days after your request, your account is suspended rather than erased. You can change your mind at any point in that window by opening the same Account & data screen and choosing Cancel deletion, which restores your profile and display name and returns your account to normal.
After 30 days the request becomes irreversible. A nightly automated job (03:00 UTC) permanently deletes accounts whose grace period has expired. There is no way to recover an account after that job runs.
4. What is permanently erased
At permanent deletion we erase, across every system:
- Your profile and profile fields — candidate profiles, all cultural and biographical fields, partner preferences, and household details.
- Your photos — every stored photo object is deleted from our encrypted photo storage, along with its database record.
- Your search record — your entry is removed from the search index.
- Your identifiers — your phone number, email address, and their encrypted and hashed forms are cleared.
- Your sign-in account — your authentication record is deleted, along with all active sessions and devices.
- Your activity data — notifications, match suggestions and feedback, sent and received introductions, guardian assignments and invitations, blocks, verification records, boosts, subscriptions and payment customer records, referrals, saved searches, and past data export requests.
5. What is retained, and why
A small set of records survives deletion. We keep them because we are legally required to, or because deleting them would destroy another person’s data. None of them contains a decryptable personal identifier for you once deletion has run.
- An anonymous placeholder record. A single stripped row is kept as an anchor so that the records below do not point at nothing. It holds only the name “Deleted user” — your phone, email, and hashed contact details are set to null.
- Consent records. Legally required documentation of the basis on which data was processed. Retained for up to 7 years and never modified.
- Audit logs. Required for regulatory and security audit support. Retained for up to 7 years.
- Credit and payment ledgers. Required for financial integrity and tax and accounting obligations. Retained for up to 7 years.
- Shared match records. A match case, its message thread, and its consent checkpoints are shared with the other party — they are that person’s history as much as yours, so they are not deleted. Your side of them is anonymised in place: any profile locked to an open case has its birth year and gender cleared and is set to private. Separately, message content in closed cases is redacted 90 days after the case closes.
6. Delete your account without the app
If you have already uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, email support@altshaadi.com with the subject line “Delete my account”, sent from the email address on your account or naming the phone number on it. We reply within 1–2 business days.
We will verify that the account is yours before acting — this protects you from someone else deleting your account. Once verified, we start exactly the same process described above, including the 30-day grace period, and we confirm by email when the request is scheduled.
7. Export your data first
Deletion is permanent and we cannot restore your data afterwards, so download a copy first if you want one. Go to Account & data → Export my data in the app or on the website. We prepare a machine-readable copy of your information and notify you when it is ready, within 72 hours of the request. You can request an export at any time, including during the 30-day grace period.
